Fado is the national Portuguese music; it is the Portuguese way of expressing all possible feelings and among them the untranslatable Saudade (means word for a feeling of longing for something that one is fond of, who is gone, but might return in a distant future).

Both words are intimately linked. Fado is the sound of the Portuguese soul and it originates from the Latin word for destiny: fatum. All our lives are commanded by this invisible strength that is expressed in this national music.

Today Fado is sung all around the globe, for example in Japan Hideko is a renowned Fado singer and has founded a Japanese Fado club that has enormous success. In modern Portugal Fado still has the importance of a national aggregating force, which can easily be proved by the popularity of the singer Mariza, who is today’s Fado Diva!
