At the age of 11, the first person that started the creation of a new country, that was yet to be founded, was Portugal’s first king: Dom Afonso Henriques.

In the 12^th century he fought against his own mother and her troops, even had her imprisoned, against numerous Moorish kings and hundreds of men, to carry out his will of independence.

The first founding aspect of his creation was to define it as a Christian country after the miraculous vision of Christ on the battle field of Ourique, when he heard his mission: “You will be the founder of a new country.” this was God’s work, the foundation of Portugal; land of warriors, since the first day.

The frontiers that were then established are the same today. Portugal is among the rare countries that had their boundaries defined since its’ foundation.

This extraordinary man’s belief was so strong that even in the document sent to Rome to acknowledge this to be an independent country and himself as its king, Dom Afonso Henriques already signed as King of Portugal: Portugaliae Primus Rex!
